The ‘Coolest Cooler’ Campaign that Raised $8+ million

By | Crowd Funding, Lean Startup | No Comments

The Coolest Cooler is an incredible example of how to use crowd sourcing to raise serious financing for your idea or concept.

I think there are a few important principles of what they have done here that are worth noting:

  • Give it a name that is impossible to forget (ideally with alliteration)
  • Create an awesome prototype
  • Professional photos and videos
  • Make sure it is unique and extraordinary
  • Get influencers to promote your contest
  • Make it fun

They also created a very active Facebook group and this was one of the primary ways they made this campaign go viral. It is interesting to read hundreds of comments such as ‘I want one”.

Watch the video here:

When I read the campaign the feeling it invokes is the desire to take this to the beach. There is also some language that call you to be the first one to own one of these precious coolers.

Happy fun-raising and crowd sourcing,

Richard

Artist Neil Young who talks about his Pono project through Kickstarter who has raised almost $4 million for this new tech startup.

His current stats so far:

  • 11,828 Backers
  • $3,960,120 pledged of $800,000 goal

I like the tagline for the company…’Your Soul Rediscovers Music’. If you go to the Kickstarter campaign (link at the bottom) you can see he has aligned with a variety of artists to create pre-sales packages.

Five Tips to 10x Your TODO List

By | Entrepreneurship, Infobesity | One Comment

I must admit that I am a fanatic for todo lists.

I rotate between a nice clean yellow pad which is my favorite and complex spreadsheets.I would probably be better to be consistent with one method, but I find that my mental state at some time demands a hyper-organized spreadsheet while at other times I need a sheet of paper I can cram into my wallet.

For many years I have used Moleskin journals as well. There is something about having one place to put everything, including your todo lists. My bag almost always has a journal in it and it is the first item that comes out when I am meeting people. I also recently discovered that moleskin now makes larger journals and that is even better.

But I should mention I keep returning to the yellow pad. Maybe it is because my father used to have these on his desk all the time. Maybe it is because it is yellow and slightly oversized so it sticks out, the pages ruffle so that it can not be ignored. You just can’t underestimate the power of the yellow pad.

So how do you 10X your todo list? Read More

Gmails Email Inbox – 10 Strategies for Internet Marketers

By | Blogging, Internet Marketing | No Comments

In my opinion one of the most significant changes ever to happen to email marketing occurred this week.

Google has started to roll out a new Gmail interface that is going to dramatically change the effectiveness of email promotions from this point forward.

They have placed three bars on the top of Gmail. The categories are Primary, Social and Promotions.

Now you can choose to turn these off, but most will not and I will explain why in this post.

How will change this effect internet marketers? What strategies can we use to mitigate any damage to our internet business? Does this mean the death of email marketing? Lets look further and what these changes mean for the online world… Read More

Its a matter of WHY

By | Blogging, Featured, Internet Marketing | No Comments

One of the most important exercises that any business or entrepreneur can ask and clarify is the matter of WHY.

Once you know your WHY what do you do with it? If you want to attract a resonate group of clients and customers then it makes perfect sense to embed it in your marketing.

Watch this video that has over 11,000,000 views now on TED to learn more:

The question of WHY connects with people on an emotional level. Using your WHY in all of your marketing, social media and communications inspires others and brings your true heart and self to the forefront.

What is your Why?

Eric Reis talks about The Pivot

This is a great video by Eric Reis via The Lean Startup on how to use the concept of Pivot when you are heading toward your vision:

Note: This is a great video to watch to get the basic concept of the pivot AND also check out the different camera angle changes, zoom in and out and setting/background (lighting and background noise a bit off).

Dealing with Infobesity and Information Overload

By | Featured, Internet Marketing | No Comments

books-image

I think this is one of the greatest times in all of history. You can learn anything. You can get access to the best minds in any field.

You can instantly download kindle books, get book summaries, join online programs with dozens of hours of video and transcripts.

More and more online summits are offering dozens of hours of ‘free’ interviews if you just provide your email address.

On the other hand, I think many are experiencing what Alan Toffer in his book Future Shock called Infobesity way back in 1970. With recent advances in online publishing and the advancement of digital video technology, it will only continue accelerate in the future.

As an information creator and publishers, I think this topic is so important I have created a entire category for it on my blog.

How can we use information to better our life, community and the planet?

How can we develop strategies to deal with the sheer quantity of information that is available? Read More

Lessons of Great Presenters

By | Interviews | No Comments

I came across this nice presentation called What Would Steve Jobs Do? 10 Lesssons from the worlds great presenters.

Watch it here:

http://www.slideshare.net/HubSpot/what-would-steve-do-10-lessons-from-the-worlds-most-captivating-presenters

Here are the 10 Lessons if you don’t want to go through the 60 slides:

  1. Capture a story that captures both heart and mind – Use of emotion and story to pull people into the feeling.
  2. Create slides that lead your audience to say yes – I remember this yes technique from my Intro to Sales Course in University
  3. Start by telling us WHY we should care – I think the idea of WHY is spreading across the internet and for good reason because at our depths it is our WHY that drives us
  4. Show us how your product will make our lives better – imagery, pictures and magic Read More

The Tao of Blogging

By | Blogging, Featured, Internet Marketing | No Comments

There are many approaches to blogging. Blogging can be done for fun, as a calling, for business purposes or because it is something your web person says you MUST do to be successful.

If you are like me, anytime I am forced to do something I must do instead of want to do, these are often the least enjoyable tasks. These musts suck the life out of me and drain my energy.

Over the last five years I have worked with several dozen bloggers and built several high traffic and successful blogs.  I have also seen what does not work.

“When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everybody will respect you.” Lao Tze

In this post I want to share with you a few tips to help those starting out blogging with a focus on how to get into the flow of creating your unique formula for writing a successful blog.

It is what I call the Tao of Blogging. Read More
